Gas Installers
in Edenvale

Gas installers in Edenvale work under rules plumbing does not have: only an SAQCC Gas registered person may install or alter a gas installation. A gas geyser also needs enough water pressure to fire, which matters in the high-lying parts of town after an outage.

Gas Work That Gets Quoted Here

Each one is registered work under the Pressure Equipment Regulations.

  • Gas geyser installation

Placement, the gas line, the flue where the model needs one, and the water connections, with the pressure checked first.

  • Gas hob or stove connection

A new appliance on an existing line, or a line run to a new kitchen position.

  • A new gas point or a moved line

For a braai area, a heater point or a renovated kitchen, routed from where the cylinders can legally stand.

  • Leak check on an existing installation

A pressure test of the line and the fittings, for peace of mind or before a sale.

A Gas Geyser Needs Water Pressure As Well As Gas

Why a gas geyser in a high-lying Edenvale street can refuse to light with a full bottle outside.

A gas geyser heats water as it flows through. It has no tank to draw from, so it only fires when enough water is moving, and manufacturers publish a minimum water pressure for that: one common 11-litre model lists 0.1 bar.1 Below its threshold the burner stays off, however full the gas bottle is.

In Edenvale that threshold is more than a line in a manual. When Rand Water isolated its Klipriviersberg 1 reservoir in June 2025, the City warned that full restoration would take about five days, and that high-lying areas and areas fed by pumping systems would recover last.2 The Isandovale repair in July 2023 singled out the high-lying parts of Sebenza.3 Pressure that creeps back over days is exactly when a gas geyser cuts out.

That leads to the wrong diagnosis. A geyser that will not light, or lights and then cuts out halfway through a shower, gets blamed on the gas: the bottle, the regulator, the igniter. Before any of those are touched, check the cold water. If the cold taps in the same bathroom are weak too, the geyser is waiting for water, not gas.

It also changes what should be installed. A house high up, or one with a long pipe run from the meter, needs a model that starts at a low pressure and a low flow, and the water side should be measured before the unit is chosen. A geyser that only works on a good pressure day is a fault built in at installation.

The gas side has its own law. Gas installations may only be installed by a person registered with SAQCC Gas, and a certificate of conformity is required when a new installation is completed, after any modification, alteration or maintenance, and when a property with a gas installation changes owner. Without a current certificate, an insurer may reject a claim for a fire.4

If the gas geyser will not fire, check the cold water pressure first. If you are putting one in, have the pressure measured before you choose the unit.

How Gas Work Is Priced

What goes into a gas quote, line by line.

  • The site visit

Confirmed on the phone. It covers measuring where the cylinders, the line and the appliance can go.

  • The appliance

Supplied as part of the job or bought by you; the quote says which, and fitting is priced either way.

  • The line

Its length and route from the cylinder position, which is set by the clearances in SANS 10087-1.

  • The certificate

The certificate of conformity is part of the quoted job, not an extra added at the end.

From Site Visit To Signed Certificate

The order gas work follows.

  1. Site visit

Where the cylinders can stand, the route of the line, and for a geyser, the water pressure at the taps.

  2. Written quote

Appliance, line, water-side work and the certificate, listed separately.

  3. Install and leak test

The installation is pressure tested for leaks and the appliance is run in front of you.

  4. The paperwork

The law asks for a certificate of conformity from an SAQCC Gas registered installer. Ask to see the installer's card.

Gas Questions, Answered

Price first, then the law and safety.

What does a gas installation cost in Edenvale?

Three things set it: the appliance, the length and route of the gas line from where the cylinders can stand, and the work on the water side for a gas geyser. The visit to look at the site is confirmed on the phone, and the installation is quoted in writing, with the certificate of conformity listed as part of the job.

Who is allowed to install gas?

Under the Pressure Equipment Regulations, gas installations may only be done by a competent person registered with an organisation approved by the Department of Employment and Labour. In practice that is a practitioner registered with SAQCC Gas for that type of work.

How do I check a gas installer's registration?

Registered practitioners carry an SAQCC Gas card with a registration number. Ask to see it, and look the number up on the SAQCC Gas website, which also shows which kind of gas work the person is registered for.

Is a gas certificate needed when the house is sold?

Yes, if the house has a gas installation. A certificate of conformity is required when a property with an existing gas installation changes owner, as well as after a new installation and after any change or maintenance to it.

Where can the gas cylinders stand?

Outside, upright, on a firm level base, with clear distances from drains, openings into the house and the boundary set by the national standard for LP gas, SANS 10087-1. Where the cylinders can legally stand decides the route of the line, so it is measured on the site visit.

Can I change a gas bottle myself?

Swapping an empty cylinder for a full one on an existing regulator is ordinary household use. Moving the cylinders, adding an appliance or changing the pipework is a modification, and that is registered work with a new certificate.

What should I do if I smell gas?

Turn the cylinder valve off. Leave every switch exactly as it is, light no flame, prop the doors and windows open and take everyone out of the house. Use a phone only once you are outside. Nothing gets relit until the leak has been found and repaired.

Does a gas hob need a certificate too?

Yes. The certificate of conformity covers the installation as a whole, which includes the appliances connected to it, so a new hob on an existing line is a change to the installation.
